Fashina grew up in Nigeria and went to school in Republic of Benin. As a child, he was fascinated with flight. “I used to spend hours looking up at the planes in the sky, imagining what it would be like to have my own wings,” the singer reflects. It wasn’t until he was 15 years old, after hearing the music of Fela Kuti for the first time, when Fashina became genuinely interested in music after his family moved to Vancouver Island two years previously.
“I’m grateful to have moved to Canada, it’s where I fell in love with music,” says Fashina. He began writing his first original single, a bluesy, jazz-vocal soul track that sounds like it was recorded decades ago by a much older artist. After performing and the release of his single, Colour to an encouraging reception, Fashina decided to consider a serious career in the music industry.
Upon listening to his music, especially the uncanny commanding vocal delivery, it is clear that Fashina is a natural talent. “My musical evolution has grown a lot since my first recording; I have a better understanding of how I get inspired and why I make music,” says Fashina.
Fashina is currently in talks with major and indie record labels and should be closing a deal soon!
