EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Christopher D. Staples

Christopher D. Staples from Decherd, TN, grew up loving all kinds of music while attending school all in Franklin County and graduating high school in 2006. He spent most of his life caring for mother, who suffered with Lupus and his grandmother who suffered with Dementia. Christopher has always loved to sing but started going to school to be a K-5 teacher until 2013 when he lost both grandmothers 2 weeks apart and then his mom a month later and an uncle a month after that. He fell into a deep depression and finally started writing and once he did, the song Make It Through eventually was born. “Now I’ve found my passion for song again and love to inspire others with my music!

Christopher currently works at Nissan Powertrain in Decherd, TN. “I have been there 8 years and enjoy my job. I am currently in school to be a teacher as well, and that’s only there for me to fall back on if this singing thing doesn’t work out. I attend church regularly and I attend the Winchester Church of Christ and preach part-time at the Old Cowan Rd Church of Christ in Winchester, TN.”

Who are your influences in the game and in your personal life?

The biggest musical influences on me would have to be Sam Cooke, Lionel Richie, and Steve Perry! In my personal life, that would have had to be my mommy because she meant the world to me she sang no matter how sick she got.

If you could compare yourself to an already established artist, who would that be and why?

I’ve been told I should like Lionel Richie lol but I don’t really compare myself to anyone because I’m going for my own unique sound.

What do you think your listeners will get out of your music?

I think people will get inspiration from my songs about life in general. Too much music this day in time doesn’t have depth like it used to and I wanna get back to those kinds of songs.

How would you describe your musical style?

I think my style is rnb mixed with a little country, mainly my voice cause I try to hide the twang but it doesn’t work.

What made you want to get into the business?

Mainly I just love singing and love to connect with people and this is the best way I do that.

What is the most difficult thing you’ve had to endure in the music industry?

I haven’t been in the game long but mainly just dealing with some criticism from myself cause I worry is it good enough to release.

What do you hope to do with your music?

With my music I want to lift others up, I want to make people feel good and I want to spread joy all around.

Where do you find your artistic inspiration?

daily life. Make it through was about my storm where I lost both grandmothers 2 weeks apart and my mom a month later and then an uncle a month after that then about losing my sister to her going into early labor the next year. So I know people have hard times so I wrote this.

The next song to be released will be Miracle and its about children growing up and how we find joy in raising kids.

What’s the one thing you’d like to achieve before you die?

I want to see my music on TV and to fly on a plane. That would be big for me
