Ejima is a vocal duo comprised of identical twin sisters who prefer to be known by a single name, which means “twin” in the Nigerian Igbo language. The twins grew up in the small town of Edenton, North Carolina, where they began performing at age five. Musically inspired by icons like TLC, Missy Elliot, and The Jacksons, Ejima has developed an attention-getting modern R&B sound that is creating a buzz in the industry.
Currently based in Los Angeles, Ejima sings, dances, writes songs, and acts. They have been spotted on TV One, in independent films, and print ads. They are also heavily involved in philanthropy and community work aimed at helping local children and teens. Already, Ejima creates at a high level and clearly has the talent and skill needed to break worldwide.
What are some words you would use to describe 2017 for you and your music? What were some of the highlights? What are you most excited about for 2018?
-Words to describe 2017, would be faith, strength, and family. Those things mean so much to us as artist as we are inspired by all. Some of the highlights were traveling to Nigeria to meet our family there. Meeting them inspired our Afrobeats song. We are excited about our new single ‘Bail It’. It is picking up on radio and will be airing on MTV very soon.
Growing up, did all of you both always want to be musicians? Can you recall your earliest musical memory? Could you see yourself doing anything else today?
-Growing up, we’ve always wanted to be musicians and all around entertainers. Our Mother tells us at age two, people use to come over just be to entertained by our comedy skills and performances. That’s honestly, our earliest musical memory. Always singing for friends and family. We have actually done so many things outside of music, but being creative is where our heart remains.
What is the best and most challenging part about being in a band with your twin sister?
-For both of us, we don’t have any challenges that we can think of. We are pretty much on the same page creative wise. It’s a huge blessing.
When do you hope to release a new album?
-We hope to release our album in 2019. We are very excited to drop new music.
Can you explain how you two work together to write a song? Does one of you focus on the songwriting and the other the music or do you both equally share these jobs?
-We work together by combining our different skills of songwriting and creating melodies. We are very equal with our contribution. We work pretty fast and always help each other think outside of the box.
Do you have plans to tour this year? Where can people see you perform next?
-Yes, we do have plans to tour this year. To see us perform, follow us on social media to stay updated.
Who are some of your favorite musicians? What musicians would you love to work with in the future?
-Our favorites are Missy, The Jacksons, and TLC. We have a much longer list that goes across many time spans and genres, but we will keep it short for now. We would love to work with Missy. She is amazing to us.
At the end of the day, what do you hope is the message of your music? What do you hope people take away from your songs?
-We’d pray that our message inspires and makes others feel good. Have a good time and stay encouraged. That’s what we hope people will take away from our songs.
Is there anything else that you would like to share with our readers about yourselves or your music?
