Born in Peru, Lui comes from a place where the poverty level is so high that it makes it almost impossible to get out that lifestyle. Lui feels blessed, because his parents busted their ass to bring him to the US at the age of 4. His parents had divorced. His mom had to a hold both a day job and a night job, barely getting any sleep just to keep him healthy.
Music has always been part of Lui’s life. His mother bought him a guitar when he was 11 years old, and he wrote his first song. But coming from that background, thinking that you could be successful with music seemed to be an impossible dream, and that it’s not worth working toward it. Lui realized he was conditioned to think that way. Although he hated it, he continued school for his mother.
During high school, Lui’s mother was diagnosed with terminal cancer. She passed away after his high school graduation. Her dream for Lui was that he go to college and become successful that way. That’s what he did. He fell in love with knowledge, taking a psychology major, but his passion has always been for music. Lui has been making music as a hobby his whole life, but he made a mental switch and realized that it’s possible to be successful with music because of how much he loves it, and he won’t destroy everything his mom had worked so hard for—to be in the US and to live a good life. Lui is determined to make that happen and won’t stop till it does.
