INTERVIEW with Yxng Prodigy a Solo Artist

Tell us about your background getting to where you are today?
I recorded my first song in 2018 with a group of friends and we released songs on soundcloud, this was before going to university which is where I sharpened my skills and really became Yxng Prodigy a solo artist.

Where are you from?
I am originally from Nigeria & Zimbabwe, I was born in Zimbabwe and immigrated to the UK with my mother and settled in South East London and I grew up & lived there ever since.

When did you start music?
I started recording music aged 18 but prior to this I had always flirted with the idea of being a musician.

How did you get into music?
Music was always a passion of mine since I was in my mother’s womb when I look back at my life I realise music was always the inevitable purpose for me, I was encouraged to start making music when a school friend of mine invited me to come to a recording session with me.

What is the most challenging thing you have overcome in your life?
The most challenging thing I have overcome in my life would have to be being homeless towards the end of secondary school and sitting my GCSE exams while not knowing where I would be sleeping.

Are you currently signed or independent?
Currently I am an independent artist

Who inspires you the most musically?
I am inspired by a host of musicians from different era’s and genres; I would like to think I’m a student of music. My main inspiration is Bob Marley mainly because of what his music stood for and his ability to bring people together.

What do you want people to take away after listening to your music?
When people listen to my music I want them to take away a feeling of joy and inspiration to be the best version of themselves.

Any new music coming out soon?
I have new singles coming out soon

What is your greatest achievement as a musician?
My greatest achievement as a musician so far is reaching 100K streams on my first single on Spotify.

Do you produce your own music? If not who do you work with?
I don’t produce my own music, currently I work with several different producers such well known and some unknown.

Who is one artist you wish you could work with?
One artist I wish I could work with would have to be Tupac

Tell us about any new music you have coming out? When is coming out? What is it about?
I have two singles coming out this summer, they’re both about romance which is my favourite topic to write about as it’s something we can all relate to. Types of songs which will get you on the dancefloor.

What does a day inside your shoes look like?
A day in my shoes consists of working out by some composing If I’m feeling inspired to, if not I’m out with friends exploring the city. Usually I like to end my days by watching some documentaries or reading an interesting autobiography.

Anything else you want the audience to know about you?
I would like people to know apart from making music I’m also into performing arts and fine art
