Introducing Beth

I had the opportunity to hear Beth perform live for a “Toy Banks Better Life, Better Wife” event. The audience including myself and company was enamored by her strong vocal presence that has a R&B, gospel flair. She has an array of original music with a Motown influence and background associated with it. After the show, it was such a pleasure to speak with Beth and navigate through her interesting career that is vast with some of our Greats! It is a pleasure to have her featured in our “Musician’s Corner”.

What is your music background?

I grew up with music in my home. My dad was an original member of the Funk Brothers, Motown’s in-house studio band that created the famous ‘Motown Sound.’

Currently, I’m balancing my solo career with also touring as a background singer with 3-time Grammy® Award-nominated, Motown Recording Artist, KEM.

Prior to working with KEM, I toured with 8-time Grammy® Award-winning songstress, Anita Baker as a background vocalist for five years, performing all over the world in some of the most prestigious venues in the world, including the Royal Albert Hall in London, Radio City Music Hall in New York, and arenas in South Africa, Nigeria, Trinidad and throughout the Caribbean.

I’ve provided background vocals for Grammy® Award-winning gospel singer Yolanda Adams’ Christmas album, “What A Wonderful Time” and in 2008 and on Rock-n-Roll Hall of Famer, Dave Mason’s project, “26 Letters, 12 Notes” on the song, “How Do I Get to Heaven.”

One of my most memorable moments acting was being cast in the 2011 remake of the movie, “Sparkle” as the stand-in and body-double for Whitney Houston, during filming in Detroit in 2011.

I’ve also been doing some vocal work for television. I was a principle vocalist on “Dancing With The Stars, Season 22 – Icons Night,” and I’ve also provided my voice for the television shows: “Ash vs. Evil Dead” on the Starz Network, “Glee Project” on the OWN Network and “American Bible Challenge” on the Game Show Network (GSN).

Who is your fan/customer?

My customer/fan base is so diverse and I love that !!! I have all ages listening to my music. That’s exactly what I was hoping for ! Although my music is categorized as Urban  A/C (Urban Adult Contemporary) and R & B, there is a touch of pop. I love all types of music and you’ll hear many influences.

What are your songs about?

My songs are about love and life experiences in relationships.  Every song is about a different type of relationship from a woman’s viewpoint.

Who are your musical influences:?

I have many musical influences.

For a couple years I sang in a cover band and I was exposed to so many great artists while learning their music. My absolute favorite artists are Whitney Houston and Aretha Franklin !!  But I love many others from Barbara Streisand and Frank Sinatra to Beyoncé and Cardi B. I think they all have something unique to offer to the world with their gifts. I aspire to have my name mentioned with the greats one day!

How do you describe your music to people?

My music is feel good music! It’s good for the soul.

My music is also relaxing and easy to listen to and sing along to. I love a great melody that’s easy to remember, and I have that on the songs my album.

What image do you think your music conveys?

My music conveys a positive image of love and to love yourself. It also conveys having a good strong love, and getting away if it’s bad love !

Life is love and it’s relationship driven. I really wanted to sing about what makes the world go around, love. ️

What live performance experience have you had?

Since I’ve been a background singer for many years, I’ve had the opportunity to perform all over the world with great artists. But, most memorable for me are the performances for me as a solo artist.

Since releasing my debut album August 7, 2017, I’ve performed at the Hard Rock Cafe in Hollywood, opened for KEM (my boss) and Marsha Ambrosias and most recently Dubai for the JazzGarden Episode 2 concert.

It was an incredible feeling to perform my own music!

I’m also honored to continue to honor my dad’s legacy in music by performing at an annual event called the HAL (Hero’s and Legends Awards) This event takes place in Loa Angeles every year the last weekend in September.

This event is a scholarship black tie event to raise money for the art for youth in the LA area.

This organization is run by Janie Bradford who is one of the original “first 5” employees of Motown and co-writer of many hits like “Money”.

I perform every year and I truly appreciate the mentoring, coaching and love that they’ve shown me over the years.

Have you recorded any previous CDs?

My album “Free” is my first full album release.  I also released a single for Christmas on December 1, 2017, called “All I Want is You for Christmas”

How do you sell your CD’s/Audio Files?

My music is available on all digital outlets. It’s also available for direct download on my website ( When I have performances, I have CDs.

Anything else you’d like your reader to know about you?

No one is a stranger!  I love to meet and interact with fans. So if you see me out, say Hi!
