I had the opportunity to hear Beth perform live for a “Toy Banks Better Life, Better Wife” event. The audience including myself and company was enamored by her strong vocal presence that has a R&B, gospel flair. She has an array of original music with a Motown influence and background associated with it. After the show, it was such a pleasure to speak with Beth and navigate through her interesting career that is vast with some of our Greats! It is a pleasure to have her featured in our “Musician’s Corner”.
What is your music background?
I grew up with music in my home. My dad was an original member of the Funk Brothers, Motown’s in-house studio band that created the famous ‘Motown Sound.’
Currently, I’m balancing my solo career with also touring as a background singer with 3-time Grammy® Award-nominated, Motown Recording Artist, KEM.
Prior to working with KEM, I toured with 8-time Grammy® Award-winning songstress, Anita Baker as a background vocalist for five years, performing all over the world in some of the most prestigious venues in the world, including the Royal Albert Hall in London, Radio City Music Hall in New York, and arenas in South Africa, Nigeria, Trinidad and throughout the Caribbean.
I’ve provided background vocals for Grammy® Award-winning gospel singer Yolanda Adams’ Christmas album, “What A Wonderful Time” and in 2008 and on Rock-n-Roll Hall of Famer, Dave Mason’s project, “26 Letters, 12 Notes” on the song, “How Do I Get to Heaven.”
One of my most memorable moments acting was being cast in the 2011 remake of the movie, “Sparkle” as the stand-in and body-double for Whitney Houston, during filming in Detroit in 2011.
I’ve also been doing some vocal work for television. I was a principle vocalist on “Dancing With The Stars, Season 22 – Icons Night,” and I’ve also provided my voice for the television shows: “Ash vs. Evil Dead” on the Starz Network, “Glee Project” on the OWN Network and “American Bible Challenge” on the Game Show Network (GSN).

Since I’ve been a background singer for many years, I’ve had the opportunity to perform all over the world with great artists. But, most memorable for me are the performances for me as a solo artist.
Since releasing my debut album August 7, 2017, I’ve performed at the Hard Rock Cafe in Hollywood, opened for KEM (my boss) and Marsha Ambrosias and most recently Dubai for the JazzGarden Episode 2 concert.
It was an incredible feeling to perform my own music!
I’m also honored to continue to honor my dad’s legacy in music by performing at an annual event called the HAL (Hero’s and Legends Awards) This event takes place in Loa Angeles every year the last weekend in September.
This event is a scholarship black tie event to raise money for the art for youth in the LA area.
This organization is run by Janie Bradford who is one of the original “first 5” employees of Motown and co-writer of many hits like “Money”.
I perform every year and I truly appreciate the mentoring, coaching and love that they’ve shown me over the years.
