Taylor Swift released an advertisement for Apple Music on her social media accounts this morning, endorsing the music streaming service. The sponsorship came in the form of a video that left ‘Swifties’ (and anyone else who watched it!) in tears of laughter as Taylor Swift is so distracted by the music that she seemingly forgets she is running on a treadmill and falls on her face. Taylor seemed to be keeping a low profile in recent months since the end of her 1989 World Tour so the unprecedented video caused excitement among her fans, instantly inspiring gifs and captions.
The partnership between Taylor Swift and Apple came about in 2014 after Swift released her latest Grammy Award winning album ‘1989’. Swift withheld her music from the streaming service under the belief that it did not compensate artists fairly for their work during the Free trial period, and wrote a strongly worded open letter on Tumblr to the CEO of Apple. As a result of this, Apple changed their policy and Apple Music became the first streaming service that Swift put her music on. She remains absent from streaming services such as Spotify and Tidal.
Later in 2015 Swift released her ‘1989 World Tour (Live)’ full length tour film exclusively to Apple Music as a method of getting more customers signed up to the service. This caused some controversy among her fans as many didn’t have Apple devices and couldn’t use the service.
However, as a subscriber of Apple Music, I must say, it is an excellent service. An album on iTunes costs, on average, approximately €12.99, yet with Apple Music, you can listen to unlimited music from the entire iTunes library for only €9.99 per month, and you can download them so they play without Internet connection which is an added bonus.
After the ad. starring Taylor Swift was released this morning, people were left wondering, is this a one off or is it one of many. Either way, it put a smile on my face this morning.
